The San Francisco 49ers were jolted awake on Thursday by an ear-piercing fire alarm that went off at their hotel.
The alarm went off at approximately 6 a.m., according to the team. While guests weren’t evacuated because it was determined to be a false alarm, the blaring warning signal continued for at least 18 minutes before it was finally turned off, per the 49ers.
Running back Christian McCaffrey, who’s with his team in Las Vegas to play in Sunday’s Super Bowl, says he doesn’t believe the incident was an accident. “I think there’s no way it’s random,” McCaffrey says. “It’s part of it. It’s just more wood thrown on the fire.”
The 49ers will face the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII this Sunday at 6:30 p.m. EST.
