Jerry Cantrell played the ‘Dirt’ track “Hate to Feel” at his 2025 solo tour kickoff, marking the first time the song has been played live since 1993.

“Hate to Feel” was one of several songs penned by Layne Staley on his own, and Cantrell mentioned, “Layne came into his own as a guitar player, and he wrote a couple of fantastic tunes on the guitar with ‘Hate to Feel’ and ‘Angry Chair.’”

Cantrell shared that Staley initially intended to record “Hate to Feel” and “Angry Chair” for a solo project, but the band decided to include them on an Alice In Chains record, resulting in two amazing songs that fit the album.

The 17-song setlist at Cantrell’s tour kickoff included hits from Alice In Chains’ ’90s albums and all of his solo records.

The full setlist from the night included songs like “Them Bones,” “Down in a Hole,” and “Rooster,” showcasing a career-spanning performance by Cantrell and his band.
