Billy F. Gibbons plans to release new music with his band BFG’s and ZZ Top this year, with recording already halfway done on both projects.
Live tour schedules for both groups may impact the release of new music, as finding time for studio work is a challenge.
The new single “Livin’ It Up Down in Texas” was co-written by Gibbons with Billy Bob Thornton and Mark Collie for the show ‘Landman,’ and it has inspired the BFG’s to hit the road again.
The BFG’s, now featuring Mike “The Drifter” Flanigin and Chris “Whipper” Layton, have started a tour with a mix of their own material and ZZ Top songs.
Gibbons emphasizes the importance of the blues in both bands’ sound and the creative challenge of performing as a trio, stating, “When you limit it to the sparsity of a trio, it keeps everyone on point.”
