What was the hardest part of Gojira’s legendary Olympic performance?  Keeping it a secret for most of a year.

Drummer Marlo Duplantier says the band was contacted last November about playing the opening ceremony in July, and had to keep quiet about it for eight months.

He also said Gojira wasn’t allowed to play their own music, which led to them covering the traditional French song “Ah! Ça Ira”, accompanied by pyrotechnics and over 100 headless Marie Antoinette puppets.

Duplantier says it was “mind-blowing” to be the first metal band to play an Olympics opening ceremony.
