The 49ers’ loss last year in the NFC Championship game left a sour taste in the mouths of many players. With Brock Purdy tearing his ulnar collateral ligament early in the game and Josh Johnson suffering a concussion shortly thereafter, the 49ers were left without a functional quarterback.

It ultimately led to the rule change that if two quarterbacks are hurt in a game, a third emergency option can be activated mid-game.

Som 49ers players, like Deebo Samuel, expressed a sentiment that the 49ers were prepared for the Eagles and would have beaten them if not for the quarterback injuries.

Haason Reddick, who sacked Purdy on the UCL-tearing play, said the following:

He accused the 49ers of “crying,” and essentially said, let’s see what happens this time around. It’s hard to argue with the idea that the 49ers are the ones that need to prove themselves.

Both sides have the chance at bragging rights after Sunday’s contest in Philadelphia.
