Kyle Shanahan provides injury updates on Brandon Aiyuk, others after Rams win

It was not exactly a walk in the park that is SoFi Stadium on Sunday. The 49ers had to work through a terrible defensive first half and overcome some wasted chances against a desperate, young Rams team.

That tenor took its toll, as a handful of players picked up injuries during the game.

The most prominent in that group is Brandon Aiyuk, who suffered what Kyle Shanahan described as a left shoulder injury on his first catch of the day. He played through it, but was clearly in pain.

Shanahan doesn’t expect that it’s a serious injury.

“I wouldn’t think so,” Shanahan said. “I know he was hurting a little bit, but he was able to play through it, so I think he’ll be alright.”

Even if it’s not serious, the 49ers have a rapid turnaround to their Thursday night matchup with the New York Giants, so it’s worth monitoring Aiyuk’s status.

The other two injuries from the game were in the secondary. Ambry Thomas had a knee injury and “was in and out,” while Deommodore Lenoir “cleared his head injury,” per Shanahan.

The corner spot is fairly light already after Samuel Womack’s MCL injury had him placed on injured reserve this week. Tre Swilling was activated on Sunday in his stead.

That was the extent of the injury updates, but it’s worth mentioning that Nick Bosa — whose second half performance was impressive after a tepid first half — said he feels good heading into Thursday after a heavy workload.

“I’m not too concerned about it. I feel good,” Bosa said. “I think I needed a couple games to get my body into football shape. You can’t simulate it. I think now that I’m through two and I had some pretty good output for this one, I think I’m only going to be up from here.”

The 49ers will only have one full practice this week on Tuesday, and it’s unlikely to be an intense one. They’ll take Monday off and likely have a walkthrough on Wednesday before Thursday’s Giants matchup, which comes with extended rest before an October 1 game with the Arizona Cardinals.
