Jerry Springer, long-time TV host, has died at the age of 79.

His family announced the “Jerry Springer Show” host passed away peacefully on Thursday at his home in Chicago home.

“Jerry’s ability to connect with people was at the heart of his success in everything he tried whether that was politics, broadcasting or just joking with people on the street who wanted a photo or a word,” Jene Galvin, a lifelong friend and spokesman for the family, said in a statement.

The “Jerry Springer Show”, which ended in 2018 after more than 4,000 episodes, was known for its outrageous arguments and confrontations between couples.

Springer approved of being referred to as the “grandfather of trash TV” explaining, “It’s probably accurate. I don’t know what the award for that is, but I think it is true that we were probably one of the first shows to present some of the outrageousness we have.”
