Bay Area thrash metal legends Exodus played back to back shows at The Chapel in San Francisco and they had a few treats for unsuspecting fans.
Prior to the show, guitarist and songwriter, Gary Holt spoke with CBS SF about what the shows might feature:
The first night is going to be [current singer] Steve Souza’s first headlining show with Exodus back in the Bay. We’re going to put together a pretty varied setlist and try to pull out a couple of deep tracks. It’s going to be really killer. The second night, we’ve got a few special guests lined up. It’s going to be awesome. We have Rob Dukes coming up to sing some songs. I’m super stoked about that. Rick Hunolt is going to play a few songs and [Heathen guitarist] Kragen [Lum], who has been standing in for me [while I have been on tour with Slayer], is going to play some songs. It’s going to be a night to remember…Hell, I need to call him, but I think we’ve even got Paul Bostaph coming up to play drums on a song. It’s going to be a really cool night.
On the first night at The Chapel, current members of Exodus played their 1985 debut album, Bonded by Blood, in its entirety, including some of the band’s newer songs. In addition to the full-album set, they also welcomed their ex-singer Rob Dukes back on stage for a brief appearance.
The band kicked off night two with songs from the previous night’s set, but as they approached the middle of their show, they brought former guitarist Rick Hunolt on stage with the band. At one point, Exodus’ current guitarist Kragen Lum switched over to bass on the track “War is My Shepherd” as Hunolt played guitar.
Dukes took the stage once again a few songs later, and nearing the end of their set, they brought up former drummer Paul Bostaph for the songs “Deathamphetamine” and “Shovel Headed Kill Machine.” On the final two songs, everyone joined together on stage and performed “The Toxic Waltz” and “Strike of the Beast” to cap the night off with a bang.
