As Norwegian black metal legends Mayhem celebrate four decades of sonic chaos, guitarist Ghul sat down with Nikki Blakk from 107.7 The Bone ahead of their show at the UC Theatre in Berkeley. Reflecting on the band’s legacy, Ghul shared insight into Mayhem’s evolving sound, the importance of side projects for creative balance, and how the band’s identity differs from his past work with Cradle of Filth.
While a new album is in the works, fans shouldn’t expect it until early 2026. For now, Ghul is enjoying the Decibel Magazine Tour—though he admits the suspiciously calm energy backstage has him on high alert.
Mayhem will take the stage on April 9 in Berkeley for a sold out show as they tear through four decades of extreme metal mayhem.
