Bob Seger and Writing ‘Turn The Page’

By

/

“Turn The Page” by Bob Seger reflects the emotional toll of touring on musicians, capturing the exhaustion, solitude, and disconnection they experience.

Seger used the songwriting process for “Turn The Page” as a form of therapy to process the behind-the-scenes pressure of maintaining a public image while burning out internally.

The songwriting experience for “Turn The Page” was unique for Seger, as he usually focused on logistics during tours but found rare moments to sketch the song’s verses on the road.

The line “Later in the evening when you lie awake in bed with the echo from the amplifiers ringing in your head” in the song was inspired by Seger’s struggle with tinnitus, a result of constant exposure to loud volumes during tours.

“Turn The Page” symbolizes a mindset for musicians on the road, representing the constant forward momentum and the need to start fresh every day, capturing the physical and emotional journey of growth through endurance.
