Some singers are born with a great voice, while others have to work at it until they can finally convince people they can sing. Joe Elliott says he belongs in the latter category.
The Def Leppard frontman says, “A lot of singers are born with an amazing voice, so they don’t believe they need to bother to try. And I understand that, because if I’d have been born with a great voice, I don’t think I would have tried as hard either. But the fact that I was not, and I had to develop one, I was prepared to do the work.”
Elliott says he’s maintaining his voice in his old age by refusing to sing two nights in a row. He says the band has gone from performing 200 shows a year to approximately 25 – with plenty of time in between gigs to give his pipes a rest.
