Metallica has a musical legacy that few bands can match – but James Hetfield insists they’re not a ‘legacy band’.

On the latest episode of the ‘Metallica Report’ podcast, Hetfield pointed out that they’re always adding new material to the live set list.

He said they’re not afraid to “challenge” the audience with new music: “We certainly don’t want to be a legacy band that just plays its greatest hits and then that’s it.”

Metallica will resume its M72 tour in 2025.
