Steph inks another lucrative extension

While it’s not the contract news Bay Area sports fans hoped to hear this morning, it’s still very good news. Warriors superstar guard Stephen Curry inked a mind boggling $62.5 million extension to stay with the Dubs for another season beyond the means of his current contract. In just under two months, Curry will embark on his 16th NBA season, all with the Warriors.

The move comes in the wake of what was largely considered to be an underwhelming off-season for Golden State. The Dubs were unable to land coveted sidekicks for Curry, most notably Utah Jazz forward Lauri Markkanen. Despite the plethora of success the franchise has enjoyed with Curry, the Warriors have been criticized since their 2022 title for failing to maximize the back half of Curry’s prime.

Although the spring of 2024 didn’t yield postseason success for the Warriors, it was far from a fruitless summer for Curry. He led team USA to gold at the 2024 summer Olympics. The lasting impression of the tournament came from a signature Curry flurry in the fourth quarter of the gold medal game as the Americans pulled away from the French to take the top of the podium.

The Warriors open the 2024-25 campaign on October 23 in Portland.
