Sean Lennon Says It’s His ‘Duty’ To Keep Dad’s Legacy Alive

As if being the offspring of a legendary performer doesn’t put enough pressure on a person, Sean Lennon says he’s burdened with the responsibility of keeping his father John Lennon’s legacy alive.

“One thing that distinguishes my dad’s solo career is how personal his lyrics became,” the younger Lennon says. “It is like a diary, and it is my duty to bring attention to my father’s music. Not just my duty to him, but a duty to the world.”

YouTube, @John Lennon.

As part of that duty, Lennon recently helmed a remix of his dad’s 1973 album Mind Games, which dropped earlier this month. “With the world as it is now, people have forgotten so many things that I never imagined could be forgotten,” he says. “I refuse to let that happen to this music — it means too much to me.”
