A former writer for The Simpsons is shutting down a long-running urban legend: that the show’s Duff Beer was named after Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan.
McKagan himself has made the claim – in a recent interview, he said he got a call in 1989 that “some arthouse-like cartoon wants to use your name as the beer.”
But former Simpsons producer Jay Kogen told TMZ McKagan had “zero to do with it”: “We named it Duff because it’s a synonym for butt… Duff is a beer for people who sat on their fat a** all day.”
