Lamont & Tonelli interviewed San Francisco 49ers Head Coach Kyle Shanahan about Christian McCaffrey becoming a 49er.
“We had an opportunity to get a real good player and when that happens, you don’t want to hesitate on it. We had to compete with some other teams on it, which is usually the deal when there’s a guy like that available.” Shanahan continued, “I know he’s from Denver, but…he went to Stanford, so basically to say to get him back home. We’re ready to go man. I’m pumped to have him.”
When asked if McCaffrey will play this weekend against Kansas City, Shanahan explained:
“Well…he left this morning from Carolina. He’s gotta come out here, still has to pass the physical and do all that stuff. So, I don’t think he’ll be ready to go to practice. So I’m not saying for sure. I’d love to get him in the game. I mean, he got a full week of practice in Carolina, so it’s not really a physical thing with him. But I [need] to meet with him. We got to see where he’s at and if it makes sense, we’ll get him in there.”
Reacting to countless messages he’s received surrounding the deal, Shanahan revealed he forgot to tell one very important person – his wife.
“It was funny. My wife is mad at me because she was out to dinner so she found out through text and couldn’t believe I didn’t alert her it was coming.”
