The Grinch is about to become a whole lot meaner.

The upcoming horror film The Mean One is a new take on the beloved Dr. Seuss character The Grinch, who the public first came to know in the 1957 book How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

The new title comes from the song “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch,” made popular in both the 1966 animated television special and the 2000 film.

Unlike the 2000 version of How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Jim Carey will not be back around for this adaptation. Instead, David Howard Thornton is set to play the titular character.

A press release explained, “In the audacious new parody, The Mean One (David Howard Thornton) is a hairy, green-skinned grump in a Santa suit, living on a mountain high above the town of Newville, despising the holiday season. Young Cindy You-Know-Who (Krystle Martin), whose parents were butchered by The Mean One twenty Christmases earlier, is returning to town to seek closure… but is about to discover that this fiend with a heart two sizes too small is still quite eager to carve the roast beast.”

In further attempt to contradict the joyful holiday season, XYZ Films will release the movie on December 15th.
