It took two practices for the 49ers to have their first injury of 2022. Unfortuantely, it’s to a key player.
Defensive tackle Arik Armstead has a sprained MCL in his knee, Kyle Shanahan annnounced on Friday. The good news is that the issue is not considered serious, and that Armstead is only expected to miss “a few weeks.” Armstead sustained the injury in the 49ers’ first practice on Wednesday.
“Nothing we’re concerned about,” Shanahan said. “(We) thought it was just a bruise because it didn’t bother him that bad, but it was hurting a little after and he got the MRI. We’re going to hold him out for a little bit.”
Since breaking his hand in 2017, Armstead has been one of the most durable 49ers, not missing a single game from 2018 on.
The rest of the injury news from Shanahan’s Friday morning session was positive. Javon Kinlaw and Mike McGlinchey are both scheduled to join team drills on Saturday, as they make their way back from an ACL and quad injury respectively.
Trent Williams also made his return on Friday after being away due to the birth of his child.
