YouTube, @NBC.

Well guys, night two of the American Song Contest was last night which included eleven new contestants with their songs, the results of the first round of votes, and another night to laugh at and wonder if Snoop Dogg and Kelly Clarkson had a green pow-wow in Snoop’s trailer before the show. Before we get to the results of the votes let me just say that none of my picks were voted in, so don’t be placing any bets, but they announced that two bands will be chosen as wildcards to move on after the first round of qualifiers, so fingers crossed “New Boot Goofin’” moves on! Here’s the results from last week:

Hueston – Rhode Island

Alexa – Oklahoma

Michael Bolton – Connecticut

Christian Pagán – Puerto Rico

Looks like Oklahoma K-Pop has a chance to become a thing, well here is my breakdown and review of the eleven new contestants and their performances.

OREGON – Courtship
Song title: Million Dollar Smoothies
This fun and energetic duo wants to help showcase what being a native Portlandian is all about with their song. They started the show off with their fun mix of Indie Pop and with the help of synthesizers they got the crowd dancing and singing along to their catchy tune.

MONTANA – Jonah Prill
Song title: Fire it Up
Jonah Prill is a man of many talents besides singing. Along with his ranching he is also a photographer. He describes himself as a modern country music star which his song truly represents as it sounds like a lot of the country we hear now.

NEW YORK – Enisa
Song title: Green Light
She is the epitome of New York with her swagger and personality but it is her song “Green Light” that shows her multicultural side as she is the daughter of Armenian immigrants. Though it sounds like there was much autotune her song is still a fun one, but when she wasn’t singing along with the chorus her actual strong vocals came out.

NEBRASKA – Jocelyn
Song title: Never Alone
First of all, a beautiful song. Jocelyn describes being on this show to show thanks to Nebraska and its residents because it has given so much to her. Her lyrics promote positivity when someone might not have enough. Her vocals start out soft but later on brings it home in this powerful and emotional song.

US VIRGIN ISLANDS – Cruz Rock
Song title: Celebrando
Born in St. Croix. Started his career in college performing at festivals. Total party anthem from the start! Fun mix of huge bass with brass sound, great representation of his home country and his music.

KENTUCKY – Jordan Smith
Song title: Sparrow
Jordan Smith is no stranger to contest as he is a former winner of the voice, and boy he should’ve won ten times over! From the get go, i had chills from the first few bars of the song, which is such a powerful mix of blues and gospel, and to top it all off, he ended it with a choir!

NORTH DAKOTA – Chloe Freddy
Song title: Can’t Make You Love Me
4th Generation rancher, fun mix of country, rock and blues with an almost hypnotizing beat that must be representing her native American heritage.

KANSAS – Broderick Jones
Song title: Tell Me
Came out with a mixed song, pop r&b. Started slow but went into this upbeat fun song. His vocals are soft but in a good way, in a way that portrays the mood of the song

VIRGINIA – Almira Zaky
Song title: Over You
1st gen Indonesian immigrant, likes to mix in old skool 90s RnB. The song had a great beat and Almira was truly channeling Ashanti or Aaliyah because she gave the same swagger they do. Not as strong as a song as the previous songs in the show though

MAINE – King Kyote
Song title: Get Out Alive
Out the gates, strong raspy vocals that brought this song, which has a heavy country rock influence alive. Heavy black crowes influence is heard during this song for sure.

OHIO – Macy Gray
Song title: Every Night
Macy still has it! Macy’s voice is so unique and it works so well with this song. A great mix of soul, gospel, and r&b. This song is fun and I loved it.

JUDGES PICK: Jordan Smith

JOE HAWK’S PICKS: Macy Gray, Cruz Rock, Chloe Freddy

The American Song Contest airs Monday nights at 8pm on NBC.
